I think that since I don't really have anything exciting going on in my life I will use this blog to discuss American Idol. I was very excited about the potential of this year's top 24 until Summer M, speech queen, informed me of the scandal that is surrounding this year's contestants. Some of my favorites are now questionable and this is why:
1. The most scandalous is Carly Smithson (Irish girl). Her maiden name and I think pre-tattoo name was Carly Hennessey and she was signed to MCA records and released an album in 2001 that supposedly tanked in Ireland. I watched the video for her song and she looked a whole lot better than she does now but the song was kind of cheesy. Anyway, it's very interesting that they don't mention any of this in her little bio spots on the show.
2. My favorite cutie pie, David Archuleta (the sixteen year old with the cute smile) was a Star Search Junior Singer winner. That really doesn't bother me very much, I don't think anything really came of his win so it's cool that he's doing AI now. What I think is really cool is that there is a video out of him singing in front of Kelly Clarkson and he about blew her away.
3. Michael Johns- hot Australian guy- has a band called The Rising that he was the front man of although he went by the name Michael Lee...you can see them at myspace.com/therisingband. Evidently they had an album in 2003...I can't tell if it did well or not but it doesn't sound too bad to me. So that bothers me that he has already had an album and isn't really an "unknown" like they make us think.
4. Robbie Carrico- I didn't really remember him until I started googling, but he was the guy with the long blong hair and kind of Bo Bice kind of look...I wasn't really that excited about him BUT in all of my googling I see that he was a member of a boy/girl band that opened for Britney Spears back in the day. So I assume they also had an album out....ANOTHER ALBUM!! This is soooooo scandalous!
5. Jason Castro- he was the guy from Dallas with the dreds...evidently he was the boyfriend of a girl named Cheyenne Kinball (she won America's most talented kid) who had a reality show on MTV and he was on it obviously because he was her boyfriend. This one doesn't bother me so much.
6. Jason Yeager- previous classmate of Summer, speech queen, who is from Grand Prairie, was on Making the Band back in 1999. I think he was a finalist. I saw somewhere else that he was in a boy band in Germany?? I don't know about that. Since they never let us see him sing I will try to reserve judgment on this one.
7. Kristy Lee Cook- this was the girl who was supposedly a "cage fighter" and she lived on a ranch or log cabin or something. Well she actually has had an album or single I can't remember which with Arista records in Nashville. She has also done a bunch of commercials.She was kind of annoying already so I think I'm done with her.
8. Joanne Borgella- this was the girl who they showed at the very end and said she was a plus size model- well she was a model because she was on the show Mo'Nique's Fat Chance and she won...so I guess that's how she became a model. I can't decide about her either since we didn't hear her sing.
9. Syesha Mercado (Not of Mercado Juarez) was a contestant on The One...which was another singing show that I guess I missed...this one doesn't really bother me as much as some of the others, but it does bother me a little bit.
10. Kady Malloy- I don't remember her but evidently she has had an album as well
11. Amy Jean Davis- contestant on Nashville Star-I can't really tell how far she got and I don't remember who she is either
That's about all I have for now...it's amazing what all you can find when you google for a few minutes!! I still like little cutie pie and I also like that girl with the blond hair Brooke White. I may not hold any of this against these people after I hear them sing....we'll just have to wait and see!!! I totally have no life huh?? Maybe one of these days I'll put more picures on this thing
